Watch the in-depth pack overview video below.

The J79 Skycrane II is a modular load bearing system consisting of three primary bags: the basic J79 pack, the pull-out G1 "Little Brother" pack, and a LP1 removable fanny/courier pack. The basic J79 pack has a fully adjustable, robust internal aluminum/plastic frame system which can be optimized for direct-to-back carry or over-armor carry.

The J79 is a scalable pack system, built around a modular 2300 cubic inch internal frame pack that employs our patented Cam Expansion system. It is reducible all the way down to a fanny pack, and scalable all the way up to a full-scale 8475 cubic inch freighter. The system has a variety of gear compartments and storage spaces that are designed for flexibility, ease of operation, and accessibility.

How To Properly Fit And Adjust Your Pack

Customer Reviews

Think carefully before buying this pack

If used to capacity this pack system is actually quite small. And heavy for the volume it provides.
Depending on your needs this pack can be outstanding or terrible. The quality is excellent and the durability will probably make it last a lifetime. But for my needs, there is a major design flaw in the Skycrane 2 mainframe.

My use of the pack is long range excursions as well as military use. As such, the G1 Little Brother pack is filled with the absolute necessities and the mainframe holds the "niceties". By themselves the various parts work great. However, when the G1 is packed full, it completely fills the space between the mainframe batwings. Since the batwings have pockets on the inside, as well as the outside, these pockets become unusable. The mainframe is therefore limited to 2x10L (the outside pouches) which makes the total usable volume for the system about 56L (3420 cu in). That is a pretty small, but very heavy pack.

The most amazing ruck I have ever had.

Great design, super well made. The best ruck I have ever had!!!!!

Amazing pack. Better than what I expected.

Best Bag on Earth! Highly recommended for ANY purpose

100 percent satisfaction! I'm not military, and not using it for military or tactical purposes. I purchased this bag to perform as a backpacking bag even though this isnt recommended for that intention and is about the opposite of weight elimination. I got this bag to comfortably carry extra weight and make backpackong a more luxurious experience. I am very satisfied with this purchase and the bag is more than I could of expected. The quality of the material and the design of the straps, pockets and zippers is flawless! This bag is expensive and that was the only con I have so far on this bag, but not enough to take away from the 5 start quality of the pack and the accessories I purchased for it. Thanks Eberlestock! I will always send my friends and family through you guys for our outdoor needs!

6'8" guy review

I've had my pack for two years now. It was super close, but extended all the way out (and with some adjustments to the flex stays) this bag works very well for me. I combined it with a super spike duffel for my sleeping bag and pad and am now completely self contained with everything I need to backpack/leave civilization and never return haha

The quality and thoughtfulness put into all aspects of design/production are greatly appreciated (they remind me of hennessey hammocks, another tall person favorite). Keep up the good work!
