Recovering from a broken back, I decided to go with a pack to carry my rifle and supplies for backcountry big-game hunting. I went away from the hunting series because of the rifle I use, Desert Tech SRS A2, 300WM, 18"barrel, with a Thunder Beast Ultra 9 suppressor. I threw the largest scope I had by size (Burris Eliminator III) on it for this review to see how everything fit. The rifle comes in at 39" with the silencer on it, and since it is a bull bull-pup, I was nervous about barrel down and the sway of the stock. This pack answered the call. My DT fit butt down with the bottom of the scabbard folded in or let out. Folded in the top of the silencer hit just under 7' when walking (I'm 6'). Surprising, folded out, the DT was able to go significantly lower in the pack then I thought. The silencer was a little over 6' at that point. The cover for the top of the rifle easily fit it inside. Easily maneuverable in the woods of western PA hunting deer or in the Tetons hunting elk. Knowing what I know now about how it fit, I'd consider more of a hunting pack. However, this pack has made range days so much simpler. As for comfort with a broken back, no joke, it is super comfortable. I did not even have to adjust it out of the box (lucky I suppose). I added the shooting wedge to it as well and I have a shooting mat on the bottom of it. Neither threw the balance off. The only shortcoming was the depth of the scabbard. Any rifle with a large throw bolt is next to impossible to put back in with the pack on. I tried a ton of times and could never get it back in when wearing the pack (barrel down or up). I also grabbed my SIG MCX with a Vortex Strike Eagle and a 30 round mag inserted and tried it. Surprisingly, that rifle would not load barrel down, up, or with the stock folded AT ALL. FYI for those with M4 style weapons, measure the height of your rifle from the bottom of the mag to the top of your sight/optic/scope. I left the pack with my DT in it to hang in my shop for a while. I'll see if it loosens up. Again, great pack, easy to draw my rifle and get a clean shot (under 5 seconds), and extremely comfortable for the healthy and injured! Hopefully this helps my fellow Desert Tech folks out there. For those that don't think this pack can handle a precision rifle, they haven't tried a Desert Tech.
