The switchblade is a amazing pack. It has tons of space and seems very well made. It works great for my everyday pack and day hikes. Would highly recommend
This is perfect for an EDC pack!
The Switchblade is the third pack I’ve purchased from Eberlestock and like the others the durability and craftsmanship is second to none! Switchblade is a practical pack that is roomy and well organized without being bulky or awkward. Switchblade stays upright when set down and keeps shape even when not full. Back country or board room Eberlestock has my confidence!
As a helicopter pilot I need enough storage for my day gear/equipment but not too much that it takes up space and payload of the aircraft. The switchblade has been great. Tons of room for all the necessities but sleek enough to fit in the backseat with few straps to get hung up on things.
The F5 Switchblade from @Eberlestock in Dry Earth has been my daily pack for the past 6 months and for my first hunt I combined it with the F1 mainframe by removing the pack’s built in shoulder straps and connected it using the attachment straps on the F1. This combo worked like a champ. Removing the straps was a bit of a pain, though putting them back on wasn’t as hard. That said, it’s not something I would want to do for every season., so once I was able to pickup a hunting specific option I moved the Switchblade to back to my daily use pack.
I really like that you can fully open this pack up to get to the bottom or top items in the bag. It’s a big compartment and has laptop dividers and pockets that you can use or can go without. I slid a bladder down in that section when hunting.
It has a fair amount of pockets internal and external for organization, but it’s worth noting almost all push into the main compartment, even the exterior side bottle pouches, so they don’t add space, just separation.
The main compartment has some long pockets that run down the sides. While they are cool I found I was often placing things in them that I could clip to the top (you can see the knife) because they would be hard to get at without fully opening the pack if the main compartment was full.
The top/lid pocket is the only one that doesn’t push into the main compartment. It has some organization and can fit quite a bit, but it does get heavy if you aren’t careful. If heavy, when you go to open the pack a little ways, the weight can pull the zippers open on the entire main compartment and the force can cause most things to come out of any little pockets. All in all, this makes the top kinda like a dump pouch and aside from some pens and such I don’t organize too much.
I picked up a couple extra compression straps which I often run on the pack to keep it a bit leaner for daily use.
I would say is a great EDC and Day pack, even a bit on the large side. You couple probably swing a 2 day trip if you went lean and didn’t take any backups. Highly recommended!
Been looking for a while for a pack that can carry some work AND some play stuff that easily organized and accessible. Super happy with the pack. Side note, customer service is a 11 out of 10 on helping resolve some things!!!
Well made and built for function.
After using this pack over the past couple of weeks, the Switchblade has become my favorite pack. This holds everything I use for work plus extra. In a previous pack I used. I could fit all the same stuff in, but multiple items were not secure in there own space. I would have to open the main compartment to get to the small items I needs more often. This is not the case with the Switchblade. The top compartment is perfect for the smaller items that I need to get to on a regular basis and they all have there on space they fit into nicely not just thrown into one pocket that I would have to dig around in.
When it come to wearing this back the back and the straps are very comfortable offering all the adjustments one would need. The added bonus of the Switchblade is the EDC compartment, it’s inconspicuous along with easy to get too. I think my wife will be happy to hear that I won’t be needed another backpack for every day use.
Built for load and wears for speed, I love this pack. I have now bought 3 switchblades, and 4 bandits. I own one of both and have given the rest as gifts. I love my bandit but wanted more when I go on longer day hikes. I used the switchblade to replace my MR 2 Day Assault. It was a solid pack, but felt heavier on the shoulders. I have a tendency to overpack for preparedness. With the Switchblade I can essentially carry the same supplies but it rides better. So like I said, "Built for load and wears for speed". Eberlestock -- let me know when you need an equipment tester!
