The Pack That Started It All: Eberlestock’s Legendary Just One Pack Returns

The Pack That Started It All: Eberlestock’s Legendary Just One Pack Returns

In 1985, Glen Eberle created the original Just One Pack, a revolutionary design that would go on to change the way hunters and adventure seekers approach gear. Now, nearly four decades later, the iconic pack is back with a complete redesign—lighter, more comfortable, and packed with updated features that take the original vision to the next level.

The Just One Pack was the first of its kind, combining versatility, durability, and comfort in a single design. Its groundbreaking features, such as the ability to expand from a daypack into a larger load-hauling system, set the standard for what a multi-functional hunting pack could be. The newly updated model stays true to that original vision while integrating several key improvements.

The most noticeable change is the pack’s reduced weight. Eberlestock has managed to cut nearly a pound off the overall design without sacrificing strength or performance. This makes the new Just One even more comfortable for extended use, whether you’re hiking into a spike camp or packing out large game quarters. The pack now offers even more versatility, easily transitioning between daypack mode and a larger system suited for multi-day backcountry adventures.

One of the standout upgrades is the new aluminum Intex frame, which helps distribute weight evenly across the body, offering better support and reducing strain. The updated scabbard design ensures your rifle stays centered and secure on your back, making it easier to move through rugged terrain.

The harness system has also received a major improvement, now featuring an adjustable padded shoulder harness with turnover construction for maximum comfort. Additionally, the pull-forward hipbelt and new “tri-glide” system provide better fit and stability, ensuring the pack moves with you instead of against you.

The Just One Pack is more than just a piece of equipment; it’s the legacy of Eberlestock’s commitment to innovation. With its combination of legendary design and cutting-edge updates, it’s the perfect choice for anyone who needs a pack that can handle it all.

More from Eberlestock

When it comes to western hunting, your choice of pack can make or break your expedition. The demanding terrain, unpredictable weather, and need to pack out heavy loads require gear that's up to the challenge. Let's dive into some of the best options available for serious hunters who demand performance and reliability.

The Foundation: The EMOD System

At the core of any serious western hunting setup is a reliable frame system. The Mainframe stands out as an exceptional choice, having been tested to hold over 1,300 pounds. This ultra-rugged frame serves as the foundation for a modular system that can be configured for anything from day hunts to extended backcountry expeditions. What sets the Mainframe apart is its versatility – you can build it up for multi-day trips or strip it down when you need to go in light and come out heavy.

For the Dedicated Elk Hunter: The Team Elk Pack

Elk hunting presents unique challenges, and the Team Elk Pack was specifically designed to meet them. Its standout feature is the patented rifle-back scabbard, which keeps your weapon secure yet accessible. The pack's aluminum frame is engineered for heavy loads, while the innovative meat carrying system allows you to separate the pack from the frame – a crucial feature when packing out game from remote locations.

Beyond its practical features, purchasing this pack supports conservation through the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, making it a choice that gives back to the wildlife we pursue.

The Ultralight Options: Vapor Series

For those who count every ounce, the Vapor series offers two excellent options:

Perfect for minimalist hunters and day trips, the Vapor 2500 offers 2,800 cubic inches of space in a front-loading design. Despite its compact size, it doesn't compromise on features, offering extended depth stretch pockets for essential gear like spotting scopes and water bottles. The 450D Aramid reinforced ripstop (in camo options) ensures durability without excess weight.

The big brother to the 2500, the Vapor 5000 nearly doubles the capacity to 5,000 cubic inches. The roll-top design allows for variable capacity, while maintaining all the premium features of its smaller sibling. Both Vapor packs are compatible with the EMOD Lid system, allowing for expanded storage when needed.

Essential Accessories: The Recon Bino Harness

While not a pack per se, the Recon Modular Bino Harness deserves mention as a crucial piece of western hunting gear. Its magnetic forward-pull access ensures quick, quiet operation, while the modular design allows you to customize it to your needs. The MOLLE-compatible wings and rear panel provide options for additional storage without compromising the low-profile design.

Making Your Choice

When selecting your western hunting pack, consider these factors:
- Hunt duration: Day hunts might be well-served by the Vapor 2500 or even smaller packs like our Bandit or X2, while multi-day expeditions call for the Vapor 5000 and a fully configured Mainframe system
- Personal preference: Some hunters prefer the simplicity of an all-in-one solution like the Team Elk Pack, while others appreciate the modularity of the Mainframe system

Remember, the best pack is the one that fits your specific hunting style and needs. All these options are field-proven and capable of handling the demands of western hunting – the key is matching the right pack to your particular requirements.

Whether you're planning your first western hunt or looking to upgrade your current setup, these packs represent some of the finest options available. Each has been designed with the serious hunter in mind, incorporating features and durability that can handle the demanding conditions of western hunting while helping you bring home your harvest successfully.

So Happy!!

Very well made! Love everything about it. First thing my daughter asked was if she could fit inside so we had to test it out. Very comfortable with my 40 pound kid on my back. Should do well in the bush!!

One Pack Exceeded Expectations

I needed a new bowhunting pack that was versatile and yet compressible enough to handle bowhunting near and far.
I had thought through the abilities of the One Pack for my bowhunting needs of; I am both a compound bow hunter with a 33+ Mathews Phase 4 that would need to strap on the pack, then I am a Traditional Bowhunter with both Recurve and Long Bow and they both fit well into the gun sleeve.
I purchased the pack before a Texas Bowhunt for Hogs and the pack exceeded all my expectations as a bowhunter.

Just one pack

Nice fit with plenty of room for your stuff yet low profile when traveling light. Only thing that I guess was weird is I bought on 20% off sale then 10 days later it is another 30% cheaper. I own a gunslinger as well and love. Waiting for deadwood pants to be back in stock and want to grab some of those.

Just One for Me

The just one pack from Eberlestock works perfect for everything I need. I was skeptical at first buying packs as some of them are somewhat expensive. So I researched and looked at when possible numerous packs most of my hunts will be in that one to four day range. This pack fits that Bill nicely. Typically solo hunts spike camp. I’m a pretty big guy at #235 and 6’2” and after unpacking at a slight adjustment, this pack feels so comfortable. I waited a month to write the review after going on some short hikes with weights and equipment loaded to test the pack for comfort, durability and especially length of time with it on my back. It works very nicely. I’ve been able to put over 90 pounds in this pack and it snugs up real nice and tight to the back in my contours comfortably rides on the hips, shoulder straps, do not pinch or bind excessively. I endorse this package is comfortable.
