Switchblade

Questions, Answered.

What is the capacity and weight of the Switchblade
The Switchblade comes in at just under 1,800 cubic inches (30L) and weighs just under 3.5 pounds, making it easy to travel and transport while still carrying all of your necessary gear.
What is the Switchblade good for
Thanks to its large carrying capacity, the Switchblade is a popular option for airline travel. It also makes an effective go bag to throw in your truck with emergency gear like food, water, clothing, batteries, flashlights, medical supplies, or your everyday carry.
How does the concealed carry pocket work
The CCW pocket on the Switchblade is magnetic and lets you insert or draw a pistol from either the left or right side of the pack. The back padding is thick enough that you won't feel anything in the concealed carry compartment, and it also adds a layer of padding around your firearm.
How is the Switchblade organized
The Switchblade has five zippered pockets, including sidewall flap pockets, a main compartment with a laptop sleeve, a spacious lid pocket, and a flat pocket on the face. Inside the main compartment, you'll find open-top elastic slip pockets on the back and sidewalls.
What other features does the Switchblade include
Other key features include hydration bladder hose ports, hanging loop MOLLE webbing on select color variations, elastic water bottle pockets sized for Nalgene bottles, and a hook-and-loop patch panel.
How does the Switchblade fit
The Switchblade uses our adjustable ladder system on the shoulder harness, letting you fit the pack to your ideal torso height. A standard hip belt can also be added to support heavier loadouts, but is not included.
Can I expand the Switchblade with accessories
Yes. We offer a variety of pouches and accessories that attach via MOLLE or hook-and-loop. General purpose pouches and the Multi Pack are the most popular choices for adding capacity to the MOLLE webbing on the outside, and dozens of additional Eberlestock accessories are available to customize the pack to your exact needs.

Very Sizy

Been running the Eberlestock Bandit on a "backpacking" rig for three months. This Switchblade Pack has doubled my game. The concealed carry compartment handles a large full size frame revolver perfectly.

Switchblade —> perfect EDC

The Switchblade is my 3rd product from Eberlestock, and is exactly the kind of quality that keeps me coming back. Rugged, well thought-out, plenty of space, comfortable to carry, you name it. I use it as my every day bag now.

Perfect pack after a minor tweak

I bought this pack for my most recent trip to Colombia and it turned out to be an excellent choice. In Bogotá it blended in perfectly — it looks just like everyone else’s everyday backpack, so I never stood out. The organizational features are outstanding, and it’s genuinely one of the most comfortable packs I’ve worn.
Things got real once we headed down to the Putumayo region. Our camp flooded and we had to evacuate up a mountain in a hurry. A few of us made return trips back down to grab resources for our makeshift camp — food, water, and other people’s gear that got left behind. The Switchblade handled it all without missing a beat. It carried well when fully loaded, stayed stable during the climbs, and performed great under a poncho in the wet conditions. I would also recommend purchasing a rain fly for it.
Only minor critique (and my fix):
I’d love to see a built-in compression strap across the main clamshell zippers. When you grab the bag in a rush or it’s top-heavy, the clamshell can flop open a bit. As a workaround, I rigged the pack’s own sternum/chest strap across the zippers using the side attachment points and a couple of Nitecore Medallion carabiners (see photo). It works really well as a temporary fix to keep everything secure.
Overall, this is a solid, low-profile pack that punches well above its weight for travel, hiking, and even more demanding situations. Highly recommended.

Awesome as expected!

Just like I hoped, the Switchblade fits all my junk for work+. It is comfortable to wear and outclasses every other bag I’ve ever had. I wish ya’ll made a pistol bag for the range. The accessories I got to go inside are the perfect addition. Love love love Eberlestock! 10/10 Highly Recommend!

One Bag to Rule them All

This bag is awesome and does everything I need it to and more. I have been using bags designed for everything but what I need. I need it to carry a drone, tactical gear and tools to work on equipment in the field. This bag meets all the requirements I have and more. I am definitely adding to the family when I get a chance.

Good every day bag

Purchased this bag to be used for the gym, laptop, travel, and to carry a ccw. Does everything I need it to do. It has become my main bag. I won't be upgrading for a while because it is a really good quality bag.

Perfect Kit for Travel!

Currently on international travel in Norway. This pack easily fit two days of clothing change essentials, tablet, Jack Karr’s latest novel, and pertinent docs, chargers, etc..
Water bottle holders are a great feature too. Pack balances well with Eberlestock high quality straps. Most importantly, the pack fits overhead compartments on a wide variety of aircraft.
With all of the important must haves, never a worry if my checked bag was delayed on transfer. Awesome design job on the Switchblade!!’

Switchblade Backpack Green-Gray

I picked this up for my new EDC bag, as I needed a pack big enough for my 16" laptop and room to add a coat/rain gear and a concealed pouch for my sidearm. I will eventually add a couple of Eberlestock GP pouches to the inside so I can personalize my loadout a little better. I find the pack to be very comfortable to wear and find the zipper and stitching to be solid. This is my first pack from Eberlestock, but it won't be the last. I look forward to using more of their products. If you need a durable, well-organized backpack for everyday carry or short adventures, the Eberlestock Switchblade is a fantastic choice.

Excellent organization and fit

I'm very happy with this bag. I like the layout and space. I ended up with this over the smaller EDC packs because I wanted space for a layer or rain jacket.

I love having the adjustable torso. The padding on the back and straps is very comfortable. I've only used it in cool weather so far but I know the breathable mesh will help when it gets hot.

I got gray to be as non-descript as possible). I think the gray has a touch of green in it, which I like. I mean, I'd rather have green but felt military green would stand out in the city too much.

There are plenty of reviews that go over the features, so I won't go nuts with that, but I want to highlight the belt tunnel. I love that feature. I won't use a belt on my commute often, but I happen to have an "Adventure" belt from Atlas packs, and it fits perfectly in the Switchblade (and others, by extension). That belt is one of the best I've used; my camera backpack is the Atlas Athlete and that belt lets me carry heavy gear for miles (even with my bad back) without a problem.

My Kinesis C850 telephoto lens case fits inside nicely.

I don't recall reading any reviews that talk about the padding on the side walls, but that can help protect contents and helps it retain shape.

I can see myself day-hiking and traveling with it, easily.

The loop-lined interior is great. I added a fade pouch and used velcro to hold in the tech pockets when not needed (not allowed to bring tech into my work area).

I hope the main zipper will "break in"; that's a bit stiff turning the corners.

If Eberlestock ever wants to update this pack, I will make the following suggestions:
- add vertical daisy chains on the front; lots of EDC pack use it and it doesn't make a pack look tactical.
- I'd like a forest green option.
- My wife would go nuts for a teal option.
- I'd like the molle 10 on the outside without the morale patch (the patch makes it look more tactical than anything else, I think).
- add more gatekeeper loops top and bottom, just in case.
- update the standard hipbelt colors to match all the color options.
- a way to stiffen the back panel for hiking, maybe. Or maybe I'll just get a Freefall for the more serious hikes.

This pack has it all

This pack has it all. The main compartment zipping all the way down is awesome to pack but also see everything you have. The covert magnetic pouch for your pistol is superb. The laptop sleeve and main compartment side pockets fit my laptop and charger perfectly. The top lid is great for wallet, multi tool, etc. One thing to improve is adding a zippered pocket or Velcro pouch in the top lid. It is a great pack for LEOs to carry everything you need.

Incredible!

Love this bag! Used it last week on a long weekend trip to Cali. Fit everything I needed and was easy to carry around and amazing for organization. Suggest this bag to everyone.

First of many

This and the Apprentice were my first Eberlestock product orders, and I am extremely pleased with both of them.
Construction is superb, attention to detail and design flexibility is fantastic, and simplicity and portability for these packs truly make them essential EDC.
This pack easily handles all my digital, 35mm, and medium format needs. Would like a bit more compartmentalization control for lens and camera body management, like velcro panels for inside the pack.
I love the flexibility and potential for expansion and customization, and I see many more accessory and larger pack purchases from Eberlestock in my future.

SBR Bag

I was looking for a discreet option to transport a very short SBR. This works pretty well for what I was going for. I wish the scabbard was just an inch deeper. My rifle fits but has to be canted. I am cutting it close. Still maintains functionality as a backpack. Lot’s of room in the main compartment in addition to the top and side pouches. All super accessible. My iPad fits in the laptop pouch with my rifle in the bag. The MOLLE inside the pack is really thin so you won’t be able to use the whole panel unless you modify your pouches or use a malice type clip. Rifle is 19 3/4” collapsed for reference. The magnetic CCW pouch is also super convenient. Fits a holstered Glock 43x no problem. Easy enough to toss it in there when I’m at the office or whenever it makes sense.

Eberlestock Switchblade - Vesatile and Effective Backpack

After putting the Eberlestock Switchblade through its paces across multiple training sessions and longer rucks, I can confidently say this pack delivers on both comfort and versatility. Here's my breakdown after extensive field testing.

## Field Testing Experience

My testing regimen included:
- 4-mile ruck with 30-pound weight plate
- 12, 6, and 10-mile rucks carrying 25 pounds of gear plus nutrition and a 3-liter hydration bladder

This variety of loads and distances gave me a comprehensive understanding of how the Switchblade performs under different conditions and weight distributions.

## Comfort and Fit

The Switchblade's comfort level impressed me throughout every session. Even during the 4-miler with the concentrated weight of a 30-pound plate, the pack's suspension system and padding distributed the load effectively. The shoulder straps and hip belt work together to transfer weight properly, preventing hot spots or pressure points that often plague lesser packs during extended carries.

The back panel ventilation system proved its worth during longer rucks, helping manage heat buildup that can make extended carries miserable. Even on warmer days, I never felt like I was carrying a sweaty mess on my back.

## Capacity and Organization

Storage capacity is where the Switchblade truly shines. The main compartment easily swallowed 25 pounds of gear while still leaving room for mission-specific items. The pack's modular design allows for efficient organization, with multiple access points that make retrieving gear straightforward without having to dump everything out.

The hydration system integration is seamless. My 3-liter bladder fit perfectly in the dedicated sleeve, and the routing for the drink tube is well-thought-out and doesn't interfere with shoulder strap placement or movement.

## Versatility

This pack adapts well to different mission profiles. Whether I was loading it heavy for pure conditioning work with the weight plate or configuring it for longer endurance rucks with mixed gear, the Switchblade adjusted to the task. The external attachment points and MOLLE compatibility mean you can customize the setup based on specific requirements.

The pack transitions smoothly between training environments and actual events. I never felt like I was compromising functionality regardless of the application.

## Build Quality

Construction quality is evident in every detail. After multiple heavy loads and extended use, the pack shows minimal wear. Zippers operate smoothly, stitching remains tight, and the materials show no signs of premature degradation. This is clearly built to handle serious use over time.

## Final Verdict

The Eberlestock Switchblade proves itself as a serious piece of kit for anyone needing a reliable, comfortable pack for training or operational use. Its combination of comfort, capacity, and versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. While it represents a significant investment, the build quality and performance justify the cost for users who demand reliability from their gear.

**Rating: 5/5**

**Pros:**
- Excellent comfort even under heavy loads
- Generous capacity with smart organization
- Versatile design adapts to different mission profiles
- Outstanding build quality and durability
- Effective hydration system integration

**Cons:**
- Premium price point
- May be overkill for casual hiking applications
- EDC may get wet from sweat so need to ensure it is protected when placing against your back

**Recommendation:** Highly recommended for serious ruckers, military/tactical users, and anyone needing a pack that can handle demanding applications while maintaining comfort over extended distances.
