Pros:
- Looks good, inconspicuous
- Quality materials, nylon, zippers, buckle
- Velcro and tourniquet elastic offer a lot of versatility
- Light-color fabric on the inside makes it easier to see what's inside the bag
- Adjustment for the strap size is configured in a way that doesn't leave any loose end dangling
Cons (all design-related, all related to CCW access):
- Bag configuration makes quick-access to CCW compartment inconsistent and error-prone (details below)
- Zipper pulls easily become tangled
- Zipper pulls are all the same, when you look down at the pack, it's not immediately obvious which one is for the CCW compartment
- Zippers to the normal compartments have only one slider each. For me, a right-handed shooter, this meant that all of my zipper pulls were on the same side of the bag. The dual sliders used for the CCW compartment should also be used on the other compartments.
- There is no way to configure a rapid-access tab to the bag like competitors have. This is such a cheap fix that I cannot understand for the life of my why it wasn't added in v2.
If you want to carry a CCW in this bag, I'd recommend the following modifications:
- Remove all zipper pulls
- Replace small compartment zipper pull with a pull that is extremely small (e.g. double overhand with 275 cord)
- Replace the main compartment zipper pull with a pull that is a bit larger, but not easily grabbed by accident (e.g. cobra knot zipper pull with 275 cord)
- Have a tailor add a loop made of 1/4" nylon webbing to one of the top corners of the front CCW panel. Make sure the tailor understands you will be yanking on that loop with high-impact. A bit of testing should help you determine whether you want this loop on the right or left side. Install your quick-access pull on this loop.
-2 stars because the bag is clearly advertised and marketed towards customers that want to concealed carry with a hip pack, but is designed in a way that seems to ignore what's important to those people: quick and consistent access to a firearm in high-stress situations. The product feels half-baked.
Hopefully they nail it with V3.
